The Origins of Old Tibet

Our story began in 1985, when Narayan Shrestha opened a small shop on Walnut Street with a dream to share the art, beauty, and spirit of Nepal and Tibet with the Boulder community. Just six months later, Old Tibet moved to its permanent home at 948 Pearl Street, where it has been a local favorite for four decades.

Every item in our store is carefully curated and ethically sourced, handcrafted by artisans from Nepal, Tibet, and surrounding regions. From handwoven textiles and traditional jewelry to singing bowls, statues, and incense, each piece tells a story — a reflection of ancient craftsmanship and cultural heritage.

When you shop at Old Tibet, you’re not just buying a product — you’re supporting generations of artisans and helping fund meaningful change. A portion of every purchase supports the Helping Hands Foundation, a nonprofit founded by Narayan and his wife Sreejana Shrestha. Through Helping Hands, they’ve built hospitals, schools, and colleges across rural Nepal, providing free healthcare and education to thousands of families.

Today, Old Tibet remains proudly family-run. Sreejana continues to manage the shop, offering every visitor a warm welcome and a story behind each piece. Her dedication and eye for quality have helped Old Tibet become a destination for those who appreciate authenticity, craftsmanship, and purpose.

Whether you’re looking for a unique gift, a piece of Himalayan culture, or something to bring peace and mindfulness into your home, you’ll find it here — beautifully made and ethically sourced.

By supporting Old Tibet, you help sustain traditional crafts, empower artisan communities, and bring hope to those in need.

Shop with heart. Give with purpose.
